Our inspiration comes in part from the global rich list, which calculates percentiles from income data. This website calculates percentiles based on net worth. Unfortunately, wealth data is more difficult to calculate since, unlike income data, it is not regularly given to the government. Various studies use different definitions, concentrate on different areas of the wealth spectrum, and run on different time frames. It is no surprise that the data can be somewhat contradictory.

In order to complete our work, we concentrated on a few studies we deemed to have the best methodologies, and tried to smooth between studies and between data points within those studies to calculate wealth percentiles for any inputs between $0 and $40 billion.
